Yes, yes. First things first. Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. Of all the people to choose from, Obama? He's been president for only half a year, and already the Nobel Peace Prize. Well, at least he didn't single-handedly screw up the economy. That's always a plus. But there are indeed mixed feelings about this incident. Dalai Lama, Fidel Castro all praise Obama for obtaining this prize, but the media warns that this could cause some sort of negative impact. But there's one thing for sure, the Nobel Committee sure threw a curve ball.Quoted from Thorbjoern Jagland, the committee chairman,
" Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. We are not awarding the prize for what may happen in the future for what he has done in the previous years. We would hope this will enhance what he is trying to do. "
But what astounding feat had Obama accomplished that made the committee choose him? Viewing his judgments of his Presidency, Obama has indeed made some peaceful choices. As Iran wants to build more nuclear arms, Obama has tried to prevent it to secure our tranquility. Obama not only made the world substantially safer by limiting the amount of nuclear weapons, but he has has also installed some sort of peace and hope into our hearts. He made us believe that the world will indeed become safer. He gave the nation trust, that the Economic Meltdown will alleviate. Obama's acceptance to the Nobel Peace Prize has put him in the same league with Al Gore, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., and Red Cross, which is a big raise to how people see him.
But please, accept the other side to the story, Obama's inheritance to the Nobel Peace Prize may be just a filler. On an article of the History News Network, Juan Cole wrote, " ...he had not done anything to deserve it ... they (committee) underestimated the Nobel Peace Prize and its history ..." Peter Beinart at The Daily Beast wrote, " ... he's given some lovely speeches and launched some initiatives - on Iran, Israeli - Palestinian Peace, climate change and nuclear disarmament ... that if he's lucky and good, make the world safe ... giving the Nobel Prize is kind of like an 'atta boy',."
So, not everybody agrees with the the Nobel Committee's decision. Obama is sure a charasmatic guy who seems to know where he's going, but is he significant and suitable to satisfy the greatness of the Prize itself?
